
Reading the Room: How Forensic Archaeology Solved a 700-Year-Old Murder at Stirling Castle
Reanalysis of a skeleton excavated at Stirling Castle in 1997 found more than 160 fractures, 61 of them to the skull, consistent with a single high-velocity trebuchet strike during Edward I's 1304 siege. It is being called the first confirmed archaeological case of death by trebuchet — and the reason it took 700 years is as instructive as the injury itself.
