
Circles Above the Treeline: What a Newly Found Stone Complex in the Andes Can—and Cannot—Tell Us
At more than 3,000 metres in Argentina’s Cordillera del Tigre, connected stone circles up to 35 metres across form a geometric complex visible clearly in satellite imagery. Its date, builders and purpose remain unknown. The discovery matters precisely because those questions are still open, in a region where archaeology has already revealed an unexpectedly elaborate history of movement, ritual and landscape-making.
